Cusco - The Belly Button (center) of the Universe

Aug 23
The day after our Lima excursion, we headed down to the Andes in the south of Peru to the Tourist center of Cusco. Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Macchu Pichu are the main tourist attractions for a reason. SPECTACULAR scenery! The Andes are Humungus....The whole area is built over and around the remains of the center of the Incan Empire, and let me tell ya, those Incas didn't fool around about picking the most energetically charged spots, nor about finding just the right spot for the best views...

We did a lot of shopping in Cusco while we were acclimating to the 11K + altitude of the city. We went and looked at the cathedrals and took a horse tour of the spectacular ruins around the city. The people in this part of Peru didn't seem as friendly as those in the jungle. My best guess is that they are sick of being completely overrun by rich tourists who, from what I saw, mostly treat the Peruvians as second class human beings. There was a lot more resentment and "scam the gringos" attitude here than there had been in the jungle or Iquitos. BUT there were THOUSANDS of tourists, and most of them were arguably pretty obnoxious.
