From Lima we went to the clinic of Dr. Calros Cassanova Lenti. He is a real live Nature doc straight out of our history books. He runs an in / out patient clinic where he treats the terminally ill with hydrotherapy (hot and cold baths) and vegetarian/whole foods diet - strictly by the Hippocratic method. Above he is showing the depiction of diet as an alternative to surgery.
He was wonderful to us and after giving us a tour of his facility personally (complete with an explanation of the significance of each mural and statue), he allowed us to sit in on a few patient consults, insisted that we receive bath treatments ourselves, loaded us down with a small library of books that he had written.
After our tour he invited us to dine with his family at their FABULOUS Spanish villa behind the clinic. His daughter is also a physician, and works with him at the clinic. They both run marathons and train by running in the mountains surrounding the clinic (Dr. Lenti is in his 80's!). His life story was absolutely incredible, not the least of which was that he actually had known the founder of my school Dr John Bastyr. What a great and inspiring day.
